This will be Calen’s fourth term as board member of the PSIA, which he served first as its Corporate Secretary and Technology Director. His services with the PSIA, which he joined in 2006, included the development of a six-week “Java Boot Camp” which was later adopted by other PSIA members as standard for Java training.
The same curriculum was eventually adopted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the PGMA “Train for Work” program, which has subsidized the training of over a thousand scholars.
He became deeply involved with the PSIA Industry-Academe Linkage, where he organizes and often personally conducts training for university CS and IT professors throughout the country. The Industry-Academe Linkage program has trained over a hundred professors in such fields as Enterprise Java, Software Engineering, and Agile Software Development.
He is also active in advising the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and TESDA on computer science and information technology curricula, as well as teacher training programs.
Last year, Calen organized the PSIA Technology Council, a group of some of the most accomplished technologists in the country, representing various disciplines. Since its founding, the Tech Council has been involved in contributing to ISO standards on C++ and on Software Engineering, contributing to TESDA curricula, vetting of PSIA-accredited training institutions, speaking to students to take-up and excel at the software development career, and encouraging working software professionals to excellence in their careers.
Calen Legaspi founded Orange & Bronze Software Labs in 2005, which started as a two-man consulting firm. This company grew quickly in just five-and-a-half years, adding the number of staff to nearly a hundred people and servicing both local and international clients.
He co-founded the Association of Filipino Java Developers and was its president for six years. He is a Sun Certified Enterprise Architect, Sun Certified Web Component Developer, and Sun Certified Java Programmer.
